كنت على موعد مع رحلة عمل علمية إلى الصين، حيث شاركت في سيمنار علمي تخللته محاضرات متخصصة وزيارات لأماكن أثرية وسياحية, ما ميز هذه الرحلة هو التنظيم المتقن، والخدمة الفندقية ذات الجودة العالية، والمعاملة الراقية التي لامست قلبي بكرم ضيافة يفوق الخيال, كان الشعب الصيني مثالًا في الاحترام، وشعرت بصدق رغبتهم في بناء جسور تواصل ثقافي وعلمي مع ضيوفهم من أنحاء العالم.
هذه الرحلة لم تكن مجرد سفر عادي، بل كانت تجربة غنية أود أن أشارك تفاصيلها مع قرائي في سلسلة مقالات، ردًا لجميل الأكاديمية التي استضافتنا وللحكومة الصينية وللشعب الصيني الكريم.

سأتناول في هذه السلسلة الجوانب العلمية، السياحية، الثقافية، والإنسانية التي اختبرتها خلال الرحلة. وأهدف لأن أقدم صورة مختلفة تُبرز الوجه الحضاري للصين بعيدًا عن الصور النمطية الشائعة، وأن أشكر من خلال كتاباتي كل من ساهم في نجاح هذه التجربة.
الحقيقة أنه لم يدر بخلدي وأنا أسجل رسالتي للماجستير سنة 2002 عن “الكائنات الخرافية والمركبة في التصوير الإسلامي في إيران من العصر المغولي حتى نهاية العصر الصفوي” أقول لم يدر بخلدي وأنا أعد الرسالة وأقوم بتأصيل الكائنات الخرافية دارسا الميثولوجيا الصينية والتأثيرات الصينية والديانات بوذية طاوية وشامانية والترك والمغول وتأثير الخزف الصيني, لم يدر بخلدي أنني سأقوم يوماً بزيارة الصين نفسها معقل البوذية والطاوية والكائنات الخرافية والتنين والعنقاء والخزف, حيث لعب القدر لعبته في ذلك وتم ترشيحي للمشاركة ضمن الوفد المصري المشارك في السيمنار (الندوة العلمية) التي نظمتها أكاديمية الصين للتراث الثقافي في بكين في الفترة من 18-6-2025 وحتى 1-7- 2025 ورغم أنني كنت على وشك الاعتذار عن المشاركة لظروف شخصية إلا أن القدر لعب لعبته في أن يتيح لي زيارة هذا البلد الجميل والاحتكاك عن قرب بتراث رسالتي للماجستير, وبالفعل ذهبت للمشاركة في هذا الحدث الهام وهو ندوة بعنوان “الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي وتوارثه في دول الحزام والطريق”، نظمتها ورعتها وزارة التجارة في جمهورية الصين الشعبية، وتولت تنظيمها أكاديمية الصين للتراث الثقافي. وتُعد هذه الندوة جزءًا من برنامج تدريب المساعدات الخارجية الذي يتبناه رئيس الدولة في الصين، حيث تأتي استجابة لمبادرة الحزام والطريق الهادفة إلى تعزيز التفاعل الثقافي وبناء منصة للحوار بين الحضارات، مع تعميق التبادل والتعاون بين الصين والدول النامية في مجال التراث الثقافي.
توفر الندوة منصة مهنية للتعلم والتفاعل للمشاركين من دول الحزام والطريق، من خلال مجموعة متنوعة من الأنشطة التي تشمل المحاضرات المتعلقة بموضوعات معينة، والزيارات الميدانية، والمناقشات التطبيقية. وفي الوقت ذاته، تسهم الندوة في تعميق فهم المشاركين للصين، وتعمل على إعداد سفراء صداقة للتبادل الثقافي الدولي .
عُقدت الندوة في مركز مؤتمرات سونغه جيانغوو بالعاصمة بكين في الفترة من 18 يونيو 2025 إلى 1 يوليو 2025، بمشاركة سبع دول هي: البحرين، بلغاريا، كمبوديا، مصر، إثيوبيا، فيجي، ترينيداد وتوباغو. .
أما المحاضرات، فقد ألقاها نخبة من أبرز الأسماء اللامعة في سماء علم الآثار والحفاظ على التراث في الصين، من بينهم سونغ شينتشاو، تونغ تاو، هوو مياولي، وانغ جينغ، تشين تونغبين، زانغ جيه، وماو شياجينغ. (يُتبع)

“My Journey to China Series: Introduction: China Unveiled: A Journey Between Knowledge and Discovery” (1) by Dr. Mohamed Shabana, Egyptian Archaeologist.
I was scheduled for a scientific business trip to China, where I participated in a specialized seminar featuring lectures and visits to archaeological and tourist sites.
What distinguished this trip was the meticulous organization, high-quality hotel services, and courteous treatment that touched my heart with hospitality beyond imagination.
The Chinese people exemplified respect, and I felt their sincere desire to build bridges of cultural and scientific communication with guests from around the world.
This trip was not an ordinary journey but a rich experience I wish to share with my readers in a series of articles, as a gesture of gratitude to the academy that hosted us, the Chinese government, and the generous Chinese people.
In this series, I will address the scientific, touristic, cultural, and human aspects I experienced during the journey. My goal is to present a different image that highlights China’s civilizational face, far from common stereotypes, and to thank through my writings everyone who contributed to the success of this experience.
The truth is, it never occurred to me when I registered my master’s thesis in 2002 titled “Mythical and Composite Creatures in Islamic painting in Iran from the Mongol Era to the End of the Safavid Period” it never crossed my mind, while preparing the thesis and tracing the origins of mythical creatures by studying Chinese mythology, Chinese influences, Buddhism, Taoism, Shamanism, as well as Turkic and Mongol cultures and the impact of Chinese ceramics, that I would one day have the opportunity to visit China itself: the cradle of Buddhism, Taoism, mythical beings, dragons, phoenixes, and ceramics.
Yet fate had its own design, and I was nominated to be part of the Egyptian delegation participating in the scientific seminar organized by the China Academy of Cultural Heritage in Beijing during the period from June 18, 2025, to July 1, 2025.
Although I was on the verge of declining participation due to personal circumstances, fate once again intervened, granting me the chance to visit this beautiful country and engage firsthand with the heritage I had studied in my master’s thesis. And indeed, I went on to participate in this significant event, a Seminar on “Conservation and Inheritance of Cultural Heritage in Countries along the Belt and Road” hosted and sponsored by Ministry of Commerce of people’s republic of China and organized by China Academy of cultural heritage and this is a foreign Aid Training Program advocated by China’s head of state, this Seminar responds to the belt and road initiative’s call promoting cultural interactions aiming to build a platform for dialogue among civilizations while deepening exchange and cooperation between China and developing countries in the field of cultural heritage the Seminar offers a professional platform for learning and interactions for the participants from belt and road countries through a variety of activities including thematic lectures, field visits, case discussions, at the same time the Seminar will help deepen participants understanding of China, cultivate friendly envoys for international cultural exchange, the Seminar was held in Songhe Jianguo Conference center, in Beijing from 18-6-2025 to 1-7-2025, seven countries participated in the Seminar Bahrain, Bulgaria, Campodia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Figi, Trinidad and Tobago, As for the lectures, they were delivered by some of the most prominent figures shining in the Chinese sky of archaeology and conservation, including Song Xinchao, Tong Tao, Hou Miaole, Wang Jing, Chen Tongbin, Zang Jie, and Mao Xiajing…to be continued.
